Hereby Februar 2013 Danish bird news:

The regular (Danish first) drake White-winged Scoter ssp. deglandi was off Blåvands Huk, Vestjylland during 2nd-26th even alongside the regular Black Scoter during 2nd-26th with a WP record two drake Black Scoters seen there on 12th! Several European twitchers went to Blåvand this winter to see Melanittas! Another returning drake Black Scoter was off Asserbo Strand, Nordsjælland during 2nd-26th. A rare Steller's Eider was photographed off Rødvig Harbour, Sydsjælland on 14th. The first Danish (and much expected) Great Grey Owl was photographed at Stubbe Sø, Østjylland on 19th - but the unringed bird was later in the day revealed to be a local escape at large since November! A female or 1st winter male Snowy Owl was at Nørresundby and Vadum, Nordjylland on 26th and 28th.

Other February records include two regular 1st winter Shags, four Great White Egrets, a Greenland White-fronted Goose, a returning adult Black Brant, the returning drake Lesser Scaup at Skælskør Nor, Vestsjælland during 1st-24th, a drake Ferruginous Duck at Sminge Sø, Østjylland on 12th-28th, the regular 1st winter drake Ring-necked Duck at Furesø, Copenhagen on 1st-26th, the regular (and first Danish) hybrid drake King Eider x Common Eider until 27th off Korshage, Vestsjælland, a probably returning drake Surf Scoter off Hovvig, Vestjylland during 9th-19th, a returning escaped, ringed female Hooded Merganser, three 1st winter Gyr Falcons, a migrating Grey Phalarope, just one 1st winter Iceland Gull, seven Yellow-legged Gulls, the 1st winter Hawk Owl still at Porsmose, Sydsjælland during 2nd-19th, up to nine Crested Larks remaining at the sole breeding site at Hirtshals, Nordjylland (on 9th and 19th) and five Nutcrackers.
