We have always urged our users to provide country, location and date for any tick on our lists. We do this in order to keep our rankings as fair as possible and also to give new birders a source of where to find specific birds.
We are now taking this a step further! As of today approximately 300 birds of the WP area are marked as “rare” by an * in all the WP lists and all ticks of birds with the * mark which have no country or location or date are marked with a red back ground color indicating that the information needs to be filled in. The list consists of both rare birds and category C birds as these are often only accepted a few countries.
The next step in these changes is to omit any ticks without the required information from the ranking totals. But don´t worry this will not happen in the next few months so there should be sufficient time for those who needs to update their lists.
The rare bird list may change over time so we urge everybody to supply country, location and date for all ticks to prevent any inconveniency in the future.
Please note that only birds accepted in category A, B and C by the local rarity committee are allowed to be ticked. Birds that are not accepted but under evaluation by the local rarity committee are allowed to be ticked for a maximum of 1 year after the observation took place. If the local rarity committee rejects an observation or places it in category D or E all ticks of this bird must be removed immediately.
We are aware of the inconvenience for some users, especially those who have to dig deep into the bookshelf for old note books but we believe that this is necessary and it will make the Netfugl WP ranking more serious and fair for everybody.
We hope that you enjoy using the services of Netfugl and will continue to do so in the future. If you have any question regarding the changes to the WP ranking or any other questions, suggestions or comments don’t hesitate to write to netfugl@netfugl.dk.
