Hereby August 2013 Danish Bird News,

In the article above it is stated that the griffon vulture was photographed "by a woman". Does this mean that I can assume that all other observations were done by white males?

I hope that the difference between the following statements is obvious:
1 "was photographed by a woman"
2 "was photographed"
3 "was photographed by Charlotte Thomsen".

The definition of normality and the way e.g. gender is valued is reflected in tiny details in the way we use the language.

I totally agree. It isn't even funny, and should be disliked. Thank you for doing it.

What's a "Black-winged Sandpiper"?
;-)

Et eksempel fra virkeligheden ligger snublende nær. Hvordan opleves følgende formulering:

A summering 3rd cal Steppe Eagle was photographed BY SEVERAL MEN as an "eastern imperial eagle" at several Bornholm sites during 4th-28th.

Nej vel? Ovenstående formulering ville også have været mulig, men lyder som en fornærmelse.
I begge tilfælde blev en svært bestemmelig fugl ved snarrådighed og godt samarbejde til slut bestemt korrekt. Punktum.

Æres de som æres bør!
