Mere om Rosenterne


Michael Frankis fra England (der forøvrigt startede sin ornitologiske karriere i Utterslev Mose for 30 år siden!) har været så flink at sende phyl.dk lidt yderligere information om Rosenternens status i Storbrittannien og Irland. Vedr. det at fuglen var ringmærket på begge ben skrev han:

Very probably one of the birds from the Coquet Island colony near here (41 pairs last year) - they are all ringed on both legs, and Thyborøn is almost due east of here. If there's a tern colony nearby, it may well join them - keep up the search.

Og til de få fund i DK skrev han følgende:

I must admit, I'm surprised you don't get them more often, check out any post-breeding tern flocks from now to about 10 September. I had 27 (8 juvs) on the high tide roost at St Mary's Island on 24 Aug last year - due west of Rømø across the North Sea.

Med hensyn til den aktuelle bestand i England skrev han følgende:

2001 figures:
Coquet Island: 41(-43?) pairs fledged 56 young; also c.10 non-breeding birds.
Farne Islands: 1 pair fledged 1 young, second pair present, may have bred.
So Northumberland total 42(-44?) pairs; the best for at least 11 years.

Total for UK in 2000 was 55 pairs (of which 37 pairs in Northumberland. I can't find 2001 figures for the whole of the UK. Far more in the Republic of Ireland, including over 600 pairs at Rockabill near Dublin. Some increase in the early 1990s after a major (80%) decline in the 1970s and 1980s, about stable in the last few years.
