Colour-marked Taiga and Tundra Bean Geese in Denmark – call for help

During the last few years, several efforts were made to catch Taiga and Tundra Bean Geese in Scandinavia to study their breeding origins, migration routes and wintering areas. Birds caught in Norway were marked with black (letter A and two numbers) or yellow neckbands (letter X and two numbers), while birds in Northern Sweden were marked with blue neckbands (code with 3 letters). Altogether, 82 Bean Geese (78 rossicus, 4 fabalis) were neckbanded in Norway (2003-2010), with another 74 geese (31 rossicus, 43 fabalis) marked in Sweden (2005-2009).

A few observations of these Taiga and Tundra Bean Geese from Denmark indicate, that Denmark is part of the regular wintering range of these Scandinavian Bean Geese. To find out more about their movements, birdwatchers in Denmark are asked to help detecting these birds. Observations of marked Tundra Bean Geese were reported so far from Lolland and Sjaelland, while Taiga Bean Geese were reported from all main Bean Goose areas in Denmark.
