Dear Kenneth and Ole,
With great interest I saw your Black Storck pictures from 7th august 2003 on netfugl.dk. The comment indicates that it is a 2 cy bird.
I strongly believe that the yellow beak and legs do not fit a 2nd cy bird, but are typical for juvenile birds (1st cy).
2nd cy birds have more reddish legs and bill, but still have the juvenile head and throat feathers.
Jeg replicerede bla:
Kenneth and I decided that prhaps there was a little too much red on legs and bill for a 1 cy bird. None of us had experience with young Black Storks.
19. juli skriver han (forkortet) bla:
Dear Ole,
Another good criteria for your bird being a 1st cy are the birds totally new flight feathers. Compare with the definetely 2nd cy bird
photographed by Knud (flight picture) where the flight feathers are much more worn (typical for 2nd cy bird).
cheers
