Hi

I am not at all an expert in Gulls, especially not in hybrids…

So please, can any one tell me why this is a hybrid between Glaucous- and Herring Gull.

To me there are some characters that could indicate possible Iceland Gull influence; small round formed head and relatively small bill, wingtips quite long of the tail. Therefore, in all, I find the jizz fits more to Iceland Gull than to Glaucous Gull..

Kind regards
Nis

Dear Nis,

This bird look like more a little Herring Gull, wich is one of the parent. Iceland Gull bread far north and the most common hybrid with this specie is kumlien's gull = thayer x Iceland Gull. Viking Gull, in the past worth named Nelson's Gull, is a quite common hybrid between Glaucous x Herring. The bird from the picture I took in Nimmo's Pier, Galway is well on the pattern form for such hybrid ! Nothing to me for a Iceland hybrid candidate !

Regards,

Matthieu
