| Delightful, charming Small Swallow - just 14 cm,
incl. streamers (dansk: Trådhale). A Common House
Martin measures 15 cm.
Like Spotted Treecreeper (Salpornis spilonotis)
from Ethiopia recently uploaded in NETfugl,
a passerine widely distributed in tropical Africa
AND ALSO in India.
Like in human portraits, a bit unsharpness adds
softness to the Wire-tail.
Many thanks, KELD ............... C. |
| Nej, så ville den jo være en ren dværg :-) og den er kun en smule mindre end en Landsvale.
Kilde:
"Birds of the Middle East" Porter, Christensen et al.1996 angiver 12.5 cm for Bysvale og 16.0 cm for Wire-tailed.
English:
Long tail-streamers included, the Wire-tailed Swallow measures 16 cm, whereas the similarly sized House Martin, due to its modest tail-lenght,measures 12.5 cm, according to the book mentioned above.

| Many thanks for Prompt correction, PETER:
Wire-tailed is NOT a 'dwarf'.
I'll take care to check premises for
'lengths'. In the above case I referred
to Kazmierczak's Indian field guide, 2000.
PS:
Regarding wire-length, KING et al.'s
fieldguide to South-East Asia, 1975, states
bird length (stretched) in inches like this
for Wire-tailed :
' 5" (outer tail feathers up to 5" more)'.
For Barn Swallow: 6" + up to 2" more.
IF TRUE, a 10 inches Wire-tailed appears to
'dwarf' several other Hirondo's and allied
species.

Tak, PETER, Du har ganske ret.
KING (ref. ovenfor) antyder sågar, at
Wire-tailed's totallængde (5 + op til 5 britiske
tommer Hale) kan overgå mange andre Svalers.
Very best rgds. ............. C.
