| Another picture demonstrating
photographers' increased focus on NEW
aspects of bird behaviour and postures
- with Beauty.
- I.e. far away from the 'typical'
- postures seen in field guide
- illustrations or museum specimens.
- NB: Obviously, the 'typical' is
- topical in books, etc.!
Usually, we experience Bitterns with a
slender heron-like head, sometimes with
an inconspicuous black stripe along the
top of the head.
HELGE's fishing Bittern displays an almost
triangular head with a BROAD BLACK PATCH
on head and vicinity.
[ almost like some Ruffs in spring!!]
The broadened head and neck create a
shadow that improves vision in the water?
The dark 'patch' blurs (divide) the bird's
configuration, seen from above?
Many thx HELGE for the 'Black-crowned
Bittern'!
