Judging from the shadows (on a wall?) behind the bird: to me it seems to be a DEAD bird mounted on a branch in this way!

Can you confirm this!?

Or maybe a LIVE bird perched low on a branch above snow covered ground using flash?

Being a bird-taxidermist myself, I can attest to the fact that if I, or any other taxidermist in the world, could make such a stunning....yes truly "incroyable" mount.....this person would become legendary in the profession.

Thanks a lot for your compliments. It's a real blakiston's fish Owl perched low on a branch above snow covered ground like Simon said.
This picture has been taken near rausu, in front of the Minshuku Washi-no-yado. A pair of this owl come every evening to fish in a small pond in the middle of the river.
30 pairs of this species nest each year in Hokkaido
