Actually, Chukotka isn't that difficult to access anymore. Roman Abramovich (a.k.a. the owner of Chelsea F.C.) was the governor of this region from 2000 until 2008. There has been great improvements in many aspects due to his, i.e. infrastructure, housing etc.
It's actually possible to travel straight to Anadyr from Moscow with one of the Boeings of Transaero Airlines (takes 8 hours and is one of the longest domestic routes in the world!).
Except for russian VISA, you also need a so called border guard permit before you enter Chukotka. This permit is quite expensive (about EUR 300). To speak russian is essential, don't count with english-speaking people in this remote part of the world. |
