We were looking at Yucatan Wren's ...then even the local birder 'woke-up' when the sound of this bird was in our ears. Familiar flycatcher-like but sort of 'drawn-out'... Like I heard it on the 'net'. At the distance we saw the bird... solitary like 'usual' and over-size to 'Dusky-capped' in both body and bill. Scarce in most of Yucatan - even if it is endemic as the name suggests.
No better possibility to shoot the bird occured... it went away as suddenly as it came, - all the time more than at least 100m away. So we went back to watch and'shoot' the Yucatan wren's :-)... and a family of Black-throated Bobwhites. 3 not so common endemic birds at the same spot - almost - within 15 minutes. A moment of glory !!
Seen in a mixture of extensive farmland (cattle) and spine-scrub 5-7 km S.E. of Rio Lagartos - direction San Salvador/Las Coloradas. |
