Picture info: |
Mixture of extensive used cattle farmland and spine scrub S.E. of Rio Lagartos in the out back roads connected to the road to Las Coloradas 5-7 km from Rio Lagartos.
This species is an extreme endem... restricted to far costal north of Mexican state 'Yucatan' (might be found in very small numbers in Quintana Roo to) - not uncommon in suitable surroundings.
I 3 days we saw at least 5 individuals - one of them ringed (present here).
A superficial look at the bird makes it a 'cactus wren' - but it's distinctive different in its voice, supercilium and breast with small spots turning into 'bars' low on the side of the bird. |
