The parents of this young duckling were mostly black-types and absolutely free-flying in and out of the park. Certainly not a 'real european bird' ... but as many other birds around more or less established as sort of belonging like the Maina's and the Parakeet's and Pheasant's and others. According to pictures in the literature this young fellow is pretty close to the wild form' in the over all look. Might it bee that this species more than the other mentioned imported bird-families is confusing birders because the fenotype has som many expressions very different from the 'original' bird'? - but in this case the once domesticated birds are in trasition again back to free living - at least in Southern Europe. |
