Endemic to North-Australia. And not 'very' common.
To me the 'attitude & expresion' of this bird did not fit well with the drawings in the field guides. Birds of Australia shows a 'sparrow-like ground active, compact bird' but reality was an active, slender bird much of the time with the tail raised in a wren-like way. Low in the vegetation, but not seen on the ground. So ID was not so obvious as one would imagine considering the distinct color pattern. Not a 'once in a life-time bird' to twitch; but on the other hand I will never forget this first meeting with BSR :-) |
