I just commented Your Ocellated N. also from Ecuador,
and now see Your Sand-coloured N., which appears
to demonstrate an opposite extreme among Nightjars:
Very whitish upperside and white breast & belly!
Sand-coloured should favour river banks and sandbars,
but highly welcomed that You shot it on a branch.
And with large open eye - in daytime!
PS: Strange WHY it got a pure-White belly.
UNIQUE or any fellow-species with such white?
There were a group of Sand-coloured N just around the pier at the entrance to La Selva lodge. They all had pure-white belly except one with a dotted pattern covering half of the belly (I have a photo of that bird as well)
