ung kejserørn

Mit umidelbare indtryk er også ung Kejserørn. Grundet de artstypiske lyse kiler ind i hånden.

Venlig hilsen
Troels

Måske er det sådan en fyr her:
http://www.netfugl.dk/pictures.php?id=showpicture&picture_id=20248
...synes den mangler noget stribning på bryst/underside for en kejserørn.

I'm very puzzled??

It is definately a juvenile bird, but the very dark head, dark coverts and lack of streaking on the breast does not really fit Eastern Imperial Eagle.

It is quite similar to Greater Spotted Eagle of the fulvescens type (scroll down to check a first-year bird from Salalah, Oman here: http://www.surfbirds.com/community-blogs/mikewatson/2006/11/15/oman-and-bahrain-2006-with-birdquest/) but the bird seems to me to appear even larger and my immediate impression was of a Steppe Eagle.
Steppe Eagle may show a darker head (as clearly seen on this bird) but as far as I know not in juvenile plumage.
The presence of whitish lining between primaries and coverts could indicate Steppe Eagle, but the lining is far from what is expected of a juvenile Steppe Eagle.
I realize it's not very cool to reveal ones own ignorance, but apart from odd looking Steppe or Greater Spotted (none of which seem right!?) I really don't have a clue??

Cheers

Sebastian

Agree on 'intermediate 1cy fulvescens' of Greater Spotted Eagle.

Sebastian Klein skriver torsdag 25. oktober 2012 kl. 16.59
The short and slightly pointed tail seems good for Greater Spotted too. My first impression was of a very large and longwinged eagle and the white line on the underwing led me astray. I agree on intermediate fulvescens.

Greater Spotted Eagle (Aquila clanga var. "fulvescens") for me too.

Dear All Thank you very much for your comments. We had our problems from imperial to steppe (even tawny eagle was considered as an option)back to spotted. We found the Salalah eagle - the one Sebastian refer to - and we found this link http://aqc.aquila-it.pl/ showing a bird with 3 spotted and one lesser spotted as grand parents. Our books only showed spotted with pale body, head and coverts so we were in doubt.
Thanks again
Best regards Finn
