The name Bulbul originally referred specifically to the Common Nightingale - (Luscinia megarhynchos) (Sydlig Nattergal)in Arabic and Persian. The fame of the bird and its song spread far beyond the birds geographical limits as a theme in particularly Persian mystical/Sufi poetry and art. In India the name has been applied very loosly to many song birds and also as a common name for hindu girls. |
