PER's excellent close-up shows 4 Females,
4 Males in full breeding dress, and 2 Males
(XX)* with
¤ No white patch on the arm
¤ Greyish primaries like the Females.
¤ Brownish back/mantle like the Females.
[*A similar Male occurs on JOHN Dinesen's
photo of Wigeons 8th March 2008]
I believed that the European DABBLING duck
species, juv. and adults, moulted in fall/
early winter to 'full' breeding plumage.
So here some QUESTIONS :
************************
1. The 2 XX Males are 2k, in their first
breeding dress?
2. Will stay in this plumage until summer
eclipse?
3. Will/can breed later same spring
- like some subadult Raptors do ?
4. Other European DABBLING duck species with
a subadult male (spring) breeding dress?
__________
DANSK
2 subadulte (2k) hanner på dette foto?
Kendes subadulte hanner - om foråret -
fra andre af vores svømmeænder?
SEBASTIAN Klein oplyser under JOHN Pedersens
foto af Pibeand 29. okt. 2010, at det er
velkendt (jfr. 'Wildfowl of the World'), at
Pibeand Han IKKE har hvidt vingefelt i sit
første (2k) forår.
Skal vel så kaldes SUBADULT?
ENGLISH
S. KLEIN kindly informs that it is welknown
('Wildfowl of the World') that male Eur. W.
has NO white wing patch in its first (2k)
spring.
To be termed Subadult?
Previous questions 3 & 4 are still open.
Tak, SEBASTIAN ............... C.
