A bird survey on Lake Nasser by boat (Nile River) in southern Egypt will be conducted Jan 24-30 (North portion) and Feb 1-4 (Abu Simbel area) 2014.
Egyptians and foreign resident/birders in Egypt will lead the surveys, and up to 8 foreign “Volunteers” are required to round out the teams. The Volunteers will pay their air fares to/return Aswan (or Abu Simbel), and a per diem for 4-6 days of surveying, a per diem that is subsidized by contributions and grants to the project.
There has been no complete survey of Lake Nasser shores since creation of the lake in 1964, and only sporadic and short surveys of some sections. We will survey some 100+ species of waterbirds and raptors -- resident birds, wintering birds, and migrant soaring birds.
